You are viewing a rare, historical print of the first enemy aircraft to crash on English soil in WW2, signed by Sir Peter Townsend who was credited with forcing the Heinkel He-111 to land.

It was shot down by the then Flight Lt, flying a Hurricane of No 43 Squadron operating from Acklington. The Heinkel was forced to land at Bannial Flat Farm, two miles North of Whitby in North Yorkshire, on the Guisborough road at 09.40. Fw H. Wilms was captured, Uffz K. Missy lost his right leg and had other serious injuries was also captured, but his injuries were so serious that they led to him being returned to Germany in an exchange of POWs in October 1943. The two other crew members, Uffz R. Leuschake and Uffz J. Meyer were killed. The crew set fire to the machine but it was put out and captured damaged.

I was lucky enough to come across this print at an auction. I subsequently got in touch with the seller and found out he had acquired it from a member of The Spitfire Society, Shoreham Branch who was an extensive collector of Battle of Britain signatures. This member had originally acquired the print from Townsend who was then living out his final years in France. Grp Cpt Peter Townsend served out the war as CO of 85 Squadron - he has signed this print with this unit.

I have no doubt the print is genuine – it has been produced using traditional dark room techniques.

I am happy to ship internationally, recorded delivery. Please ask any questions before bidding. Please view the pictures closely – bought as seen and as I am a private seller, no returns.

Thanks for looking, grab yourself a very collectable and rare war relic.
