You are viewing an original Nomex flight shirt and trousers, a collectable relic from the Vietnam War, and a very difficult to find item. This is not to be confused with the common K2-B one-piece flight suit which this suit replaced. You will see this two-piece suit worn by the pilots in the movie ‘Apocalypse Now’ and is ideal to compliment your Gentex SPH-4 helmet.

Development of the olive green shade 106, two-piece, hot-weather, fire-retardant flight shirt and trousers began in 1967. It began arriving in Vietnam in late 1968, but did not reach in any numbers until 1969. Even then the suits were in short supply and aviators had to turn in their suits when departing Vietnam.

The hip length shirt can be tucked in the trousers for flame protection, but was typically left hanging free for improved ventilation. On the ground the sleeves were usually rolled up above the elbows. When flying they were rolled down. The collar is slightly larger than the K2-B’s and there are Velcro secured flaps on the breast pockets. Pockets were designed to allow easy access when sitting down and when encumbered with body armour and straps. On the upper left sleeve is a pocket slotted for pens. Sleeves can be secured with Velcro straps. Label on the shirt is clearly legible.

The trousers have large Velcro secured pockets with vertical openings on the front of the thighs and smaller pockets on the sides of the calves. The trouser cuffs are closed with Velcro tabs. Trousers are designed to be worn with high combat boots. Label on the trousers has worn away.

The suit carries subdued insignia and rank, typical of that worn in combat zones. The inisignia is that of the US Army 2nd Armoured Division ‘Hell on Wheels’, who were active in Vietnam.

I assume that due to the age and washing the fabric has since lost its fire retardency. It has also lost some of its colour – though they have not turned reddish brown that many have from getting too funky in jungle conditions. The items show the wear and tear you would expect of clothes that have seen active use and are in the region of 35 years old.

This item is a Medium size, it fits me well and I am just short of 6ft.

I bought this in the US. I am reducing my collection and this gear has to go.

I am happy to ship internationally, recorded delivery. Exact shipping costs will be confirmed on auction closing. Please ask any questions before bidding. Please view the pictures closely – bought as seen.

Thanks for looking, no reserve and good luck if you decide to bid.
