1st INFANTRY DIVISION (UNITED STATES) SHOULDER SLEEVE INSIGNIA ORIGINAL
Description
This is a very nice original German made 1st Infantry Division patch.This patch was made during the occupation of Germany in 1945
The shoulder sleeve is in nice used condition.
This shoulder sleeve insignia was worn by the First Infantry Division on their Army Combat Uniforms. They were given the nick-name The Big Red One from this patch.
The 1st Infantry Divison(United States) became active in 1917. They were also nick-named the “Bloody First” or the “Fighting First”.
The Big Red One’s landed on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion and were very active during WW2 not just in Normandy but also at Algeria, the Ardennes, Tunisia, Sicily and the Rhineland. Also active during WW1 including fighting at Meuse, Montdidier and St. Mihiel.
