Description
Miniature American Campaign medal
This medal was established in 1942, and the ribbon was granted to those who were certified to have taken part in combat operations; who were permanently transferred to a place of duty in the American theatre beyond the continental limited of the United Sates, on who served for 30 consecutive days at sea, or in aircraft making regular and frequent trips beyond the limits of the US. It is the usual bronze medal, with, on the obverse, a warship at full speed with a B24 aircraft overhead.
In the foreground is a sinking enemy submarine over three wave symbols; in the background a few buildings representing the arsenal of democracy. The ribbon is bright azure blue, with a strip of darker blue, white and red in the centre, and on each side, half-way to the edge, stripes of white, red, black and white representing Japan and Germany.
