Klotzen, nicht klecken – don’t tickle with the fingers, hit with the fits. This was General Guderian’s unofficial motto for his Panzer Division, the deadly instrument of Hitler’s blitzkrieg technique in WW2.
Teamwork, determination and the confident application of the mailed fist of concentrated panzers wreaked havoc amongst the Allied tank forces first in Poland then in France. The panzerdivisions went on to spearhead an attack on Russia that tore the guts out of the Red Army; they were to bring the British on North Africa to the point defeat; and they were able, even in the finalstages of the war, to give the mighty American armies a very severe shock during the Battle of the Bulge . In attack well-nigh invincible, in defence stubborn and determined, the German panzers virtually dominated the course of the land battle in ww2.
