After three brutal years of combat with the Russians in northern Karelia, author Wolf T. Zoepf’s Waffen-SS mountain unit packed up and headed homeward in the last days of 1944 to secure the mountain town of Wingen-sur-Moder.  The U.S. 70th Infantry Division was there, too.  The week of fighting covered in this book consisted of numerous small but bloody raids in the snow-covered hills in and around the village.  It was the ultimate test of Arctic combat expertise.
