ORIGINAL GERMAN HINDENBURG CROSS WITH SWORDS
Description
This award was instituted on July 13, 1934, by President Generalfeldmarshall von Hindenburg. The Cross recognized those veterans who served, and fell, during the Great War; It was the only commemorative military award issued during the Third Reich era. 1-1/2-inch x 1-1/2-inch metal Maltese cross with a light colored bronze finish. The dates 1914 and 1918 are embossed in the center of the medal and surrounded by an oak leaf wreath. Crossed swords, signifying combatant grade, are fitted between the arms of the cross. The medal is suspended from a 1-inch wide black, white and red ribbon.
