Description

This coin has the likeness of Paul von Hindenburg, the German President from 12 May 1925 – 2 August 1934 on one side and the Eagle on the back side.  This WW11 German coin comes in a clear plastic case.

Pre-Wartime German coins were made of aluminum bronze or just bronze. They tended to have a golden hue or turn a golden hue over time.  During WWII, bronze and aluminum-bronze coins were replaced by zinc and aluminum.

The Reichsmark was introduced in 1924 as a permanent currency replacement for the Papiermark after Germany’s inflation reached it’s highest in 1923. A pre-war coin had just an eagle on the back whereas the coins from during the war had the eagle with the swastika.  In war models the eagle had two standard designs with earlier coins showing a soaring eagle and a large swastika and later coins showing a smaller swastika and a more menacing eagle.

These coins were used by the following countries: Weimar Republic, Nazi Germany, Flensburg Government and the Allied-occupied.
