Springfield Armory 1903 MK I .30-06 SPRG Pedersen device 1919 RIA marked bolt pouch
The US Army sought to break the stalemate on the Western Front in WW1 by putting enormous firepower in the hands of assault infantry to be used in the proposed offensive known as “Plan 1919”. It was to be the final offensive, with almost every US infantryman armed with an automatic or semi-automatic weapon, either a BAR, Thompson SMG, or a Springfield rifle fitted with the Pedersen device.
